How To Use Globalfish.net The Globalfish.net web site is for use by professionals. It has been structured to be as simple as possible to navigate the many details involved in buying and selling fish, seafood and fishmeal products. When you register with Globalfish.net, enter as much detail as possible so that your auction and trading partners get to know you. The more details you provide about your expertise and qualifications, the greater the comfort level will be of prospective Buyers and Sellers.
You will be asked to create a name or alias by which you will be known to other users. This name cannot be changed, except under special circumstances, so you should choose your alias carefully. The Globalfish.net web site is designed to produce the maximum results with the least inconvenience. To ensure that your Offers and Requests for Offers are directed to other members interested in buying from or selling to you, you will be prompted to create a list of Product Profiles, one product at a time, which must include the fish name and species, your status as a Buyer or Seller, and other product details. All product profiles entered are automatically posted as Requests for Offers or Public Offers to Sell in the Trading/Search for Listings section on the Globalfish.net website, depending on your status as a Buyer, Seller or Buyer and Seller, ready to be matched with those of other market participants. Auto-listings are conditional listings and do not contain any information concerning quantity, price, packaging details or documentation; they may be further edited in your Watch List, once you have successfully completed the registration process. Using The Site After You Have Registered… Upon successful registration, you will receive a Globalfish.net welcome mail, which contains your login, passwords, corporate account number and other useful hints. As a default setting, entering your login and password will take you to your Watch List located in the My Activity section of the site. Your Watch List shows all of the auction and trade listings that you have either created or responded to. Listings which have been automatically created and posted on the Globalfish.net site may be viewed here, edited or removed from the site, unless another member has responded to them. To view all listings, regardless of their type, refer to the Trade/Search for Listing section. Your Watch List also displays the following additional information: - The number of companies in the Globalfish.net database, which buy or sell the same products you do;
- Any invitations you may receive to participate in a Private Auction or Trade;
- Reminders to submit documents pertaining to a trade or auction you are involved in.
All of your listings on the Globalfish.net site, regardless of their type, will be matched with any other market participant positioned to meet your needs. Listings which are marked as Incomplete on your Watch List are defaulted to expire after 360 days; they do not contain any information concerning quantity, price, packaging details or documentation. Bids are increased by an increment of 1.0% (one percent) of the starting price, rounded up to the next tenth of a cent. For example, if the starting bid for an item is $1.25, the next bid must be at least $1.2625, or $1.263. The bid increment is automatically determined based on the starting bid. Sometimes you will be outbid as soon as you enter your bid. This happens because another Buyer had a higher maximum bid than yours. Your bid will prompt Globalfish.net's proxy bidding system to raise the other Buyer's bid above yours. To prevent having to rebid frequently, enter the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a product. The Globalfish.net system will continue to bid incrementally for you until either you are the high bidder or your maximum is reached. Your bid will be raised ONLY if someone else has outbid you. This means you don't have to keep coming back to bid every time someone else places a bid. You will be advised by email if your maximum bid has been reached. If you want to sell a product, create a Forward Auction, which is a commitment to sell. The price of the product rises with each successive bid. If you want to buy a product, create a Reverse Auction, which is a commitment to buy. The price of the product decreases with each successive bid. You may choose to have a Public Auction or a Private Auction. A Public Auction will appear in the auction center for all users to view and respond to. A Private Auction will be available for viewing and bidding to only those users whom you choose to invite. Select this option if you have special requirements that participants must meet prior to the auction start date. A pre-qualifying auction must be posted at least 14 days prior to the start of bidding.
If escrow services are required by the Seller in a forward auction, bank charges and administrative fees will apply. In a reverse auction, the Buyer may request certain documentation and services before the auction starts. In a Forward Auction, the reserve price is the lowest price for which you are willing to sell your product. If you set a reserve price, you are not obligated to sell your product to the highest bidder unless they have made a bid equal to or higher than the reserve price.
In a Reverse Auction, the reserve price is the highest price for which you are willing to buy the product. If you set a reserve price, you are not obligated to buy the product from the lowest bidder unless they have made a bid equal to or lower than the reserve price.
If your reserve bid is not matched and the auction closes without a winner, you will be given the option of accepting or rejecting the best final bid.
Reserve Not Met indicates a listing where there is no bid or the reserve has not been met.
Reserve Met indicates a listing where a bid has been made and the reserve price has been met. When an auction has expired and the reserve price has not been met, the initiator of the auction may, at his sole discretion, accept the offer of the highest bidder (in a forward auction) or of the lowest bidder (in a reverse auction) within 24 hours of the time of expiry. You may choose to edit any system-generated auto-listing or to manually create an Offer To Sell or a Request For Offer. Your Offer can be made with or without displaying the asking price. Terms Used in Trade Negotiations -
Offer After an Offer to Sell or a Request for Offer has been listed, it appears on the trading center for all eligible users to view and respond to. All original Offers to Sell and all Offers submitted in response to a Request for Offer are subject to final confirmation by the offering member. This Offer may be counter offered or accepted. -
Counter Offer A member may change certain details of the terms of the trade offer and submit them to the original listing member. Counter Offers can be made "Firm" or "Subject to Final Confirmation". If a firm Counter Offer is accepted, a Transaction Record will automatically be generated on behalf of the Seller and sent to both Seller and Buyer. The negotiation is final and binding. If an offer which is subject to final confirmation is accepted, it is not finalized unless confirmed by the Seller. -
Accept Offer An acceptance of an original offer is subject to final confirmation of the member offering the product for sale. Once an accepted offer has been confirmed by the Seller, a Transaction Record will automatically be generated on behalf of the Seller and sent to both Seller and Buyer. The negotiation is final and binding. -
Accept Counteroffer If a firm Counteroffer is accepted, a Transaction Record will automatically be generated on behalf of the Seller and sent to both Seller and Buyer. The negotiation is final and binding. -
Confirm The Seller makes a legal commitment to sell the product as described in the latest round of the negotiation. A Transaction Record will automatically be generated on behalf of the Seller and sent to both Seller and Buyer. The negotiation is final and binding. -
Withdraw Withdrawing from a negotiation terminates the ongoing negotiation between the two parties. The initial listing will remain on the web site for others to respond to. -
Remove Listing The initiator of a listing may remove the listing completely from the web site, provided there has been no confirmation, and provided that he has not made a counter offer which has not yet expired. -
Reopen Negotiation If an Offer or Counter Offer has expired without a response, the negotiation is considered to be terminated. The party whose Offer or Counter Offer expired may reopen the negotiations and start over. Computer Browser Settings JavaScript should be enabled while using Globalfish.net in order to allow certain functions to work properly. You should allow pop-ups for the Globalfish.net site. If your email is protected by a spam filter which prevents messages from Globalfish.net or its members from contacting you, you are considered to have an invalid email address. You must ensure that your email is set to accept these communications. Set up your own product profile and select the criteria you want your listings to be matched with. When you create a listing, your profile specifics will be matched with those of other members positioned to meet your needs. If another member creates a listing that matches your criteria, you will receive an e-mail notification. After a transaction is completed, the Buyer and Seller may leave their ratings and comments. These ratings are a part of a member's profile and can be viewed by other Globalfish.net users. Members receive points as follows: +1 point for a positive rating 0 points for a neutral rating -1 point for a negative rating
The feedback score is the sum of all the ratings a member has received. A high feedback score means that the member has received a high number of positive ratings. To see a member's full feedback profile, click on the number in parentheses next to their alias name. Your password must contain at least 6 characters, including one number. Enter a password that is easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess.
If you forget your password, enter the email address that you used when you registered on the site. An email will be sent to you with a new password. You may change this password by logging in and clicking on My Profile/Update Personal Profile. SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) There are two general indications of a secured web page: - Check the web page URL (web page addresses)
Normally, when browsing the web, the URLs begin with the letters "http". However, over a secure connection the address displayed should begin with "https" - note the "s" at the end.
Visit our home page (http://www.globalfish.net). Note the URL begins with the "http" meaning this page is not secure. Click the link to "Log in". Notice the change in the URL? It now begins with "https", meaning the user name and password typed in will be encrypted before being sent to our server.
- Check for the "Lock" icon
There is a de facto standard among web browsers to display a "lock" icon somewhere in the window of the browser (NOT in the web page display area). Microsoft Internet Explorer displays the lock icon in the lower-right of the browser window:
 The lock icon is not just a picture. Click (or double-click) on it to see details of the site's security. This is important to know because some fraudulent web sites are built with a bar at the bottom of the web page to imitate the lock icon of your browser. Therefore it is necessary to test the functionality built into this lock icon.
Visit our home page (http://www,globalfish.net). Click the link to "Log in" to initiate a secure session. Note the lock icon display in your browser. Click the icon and examine the security information displayed about the web site. Posting times on the Globalfish.net site correspond to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). All postings indicate the expiry time and/or the time remaining.
